About Me

When I was 8 years old, I found a 1897 Barber Quarter in a dirt pile near my home. I gave it to my dad to add to his coin collection and then forgot about it for decades. I sure wish I could go back and had taken an interest in his collection and the hobby at a very young age. I always remembered the date and denomination of that coin, and after his passing wondered if that childhood find was still in his collection. I combed through his safe, inspecting his coins, eager to see if that old quarter was there. And indeed it was. It was an emotional moment.

Although I regret not taking an interest in coins as a young boy and passed up an additional opportunity to share a connection with my father, I have since feverishly taken up the hobby and studied all the coins and resources I can get my hands on. I have now been an avid coin collector for years, and have developed a passion for working with individuals and families who have also inherited a collection. These coins can hold sentimental value as I have learned first hand. They also can hold historical significance and even financial worth. On the one hand, you've received a potentially valuable legacy; on the other, you might feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of managing an unfamiliar collection. Determining the value of your inherited coins can be a complex process, especially if you're new to the world of numismatics. I feel that I am in a unique position with unbiased expertise to make the whole process much less complex for those needing assistance. Also, as one who has practiced Pediatric Emergency Medicine for over 30 years, I feel that I have the interpersonal skills and trust-building characteristics that are crucial for both professions.

I have developed numismatic expertise through many channels, including networking with trusted dealers and auction houses, experience at coin shows, reading numismatic books, and as a participant in the Numismatic Scholar Certificate Program. I am a Collectors Club member of the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and also a member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA), Florida United Numismatics, Inc. and the Georgia Numismatics Association.

"

Marty was an incredible help to us. We had a large volume of old coins and had no idea how to deal with them. He spent time looking at each and every coin to determine its worth. He shared his coin knowledge with us and was happy to point out the details of different coins. He was respectful, accommodating and professional. We were very grateful to him for his time and energy. At the end of it all we felt very comfortable with his assessment of our coins. We highly recommend Dr. Belson.

I was very clear with Dr. Belson up front that I wasn't sure if I had anything of value, and I was concerned it might be a waste of his time. He let me send some pics and was completely nonjudgmental. Marty's been a pediatric ER doc for decades. He used that level of fastidiousness and scientific analysis when he came out. He knows a whole lot, while also knowing what he doesn't know, and knows how to find it out. And he completely gets and takes very seriously that a lot of folks needing his service are downsizing parents' belongings; he takes that responsibility seriously, showing extra care, respect, and honesty.

An amazing experience all around. I had a large number of old coins I knew nothing about and Dr. Belson methodically went coin by coin examining, teaching me and labeling them for their worth. Great experience.

I've known Marty since our days at UGA. I contacted him regarding my coin collection I've had for over 40 years and how my daughters had no interest in them for the future. I dropped off my coins at Marty's house and he did a thorough examination & within a couple of days, he did a complete analysis of what they are worth and sent a detailed report. I was very impressed with his knowledge of the coins and I agreed to sell some of my collection and keep the ones that I didn't want to sell. I highly recommend Marty for getting your valuables assessed.

I recently worked with Martin and have been very pleased. He evaluated coins for me, helped get silver coins purchased and even handled the sale of two coins on eBay for me. Honest, prompt, super helpful, more than fair. Highly recommend.

Marty was such a blessing to our family after my father's passing. He had an extensive collection of silver that we just didn't know much about. His 2 trips to evaluate our coins were educational and helpful beyond measure. His presence was a joy and I couldn't have gotten through this process without him! Marty was our best investment!
